Rape is sexual violence that degrades the victim and should thus be handled with the severity it deserves.  Celebrities are adored by their fans but sometimes they find themselves at the wrong end of the law if they engage in criminal activities such as rape. The recent rape allegations towards Bill Cosby highlight the extent to which celebrities can engage in criminal activities without the public’s knowledge.  Celebrities have the finances to pay off victims as well as pay the best of lawyers in the case of an accusation.  Similarly, their celebrity title and status gives them a sort of ease of access to victims who in most cases are the fans.  Celebrities should not be handled lightly or receive less harsh punishments for rape (Barkan, & Bryjak, 2011). 

The criminal justice process needs to work with criminal investigators and other law enforcement agencies to get solid proof that will result in the sentencing of guilty persons.  Similarly, the criminal justice process must adopt effective witness protection measures.  For instance, a victim can have her identity hidden from the public so that she does not face the wrath of the celebrity’s fans.  The lawyers, judges, and jury must also remove themselves from the celebrity euphoria so that the victim can receive a fair hearing.   Moreover, if all evidence proves without a doubt that a celebrity is guilty of rape, the celebrity should receive punishments that are similar to the punishment that would have been accorded an ordinary citizen (Barkan, & Bryjak, 2011).   The celebrity should not be accorded any special preferences because of his status.  He should be able to serve his sentence in any incarceration facility. The rise of celebrity status jails where the rich and famous get to serve their sentences while living large and luxurious lives should be abolished.
